This document describes the passive-interface command, which can be used to control the advertisement of routing information.

The Default Passive Interfaces feature simplifies the configuration of distribution devices by allowing all interfaces to be set as passive by default.

The RIP passive interface command prevents RIP updates from being sent on the interface. This lesson explains the configuration.

Passive interface command is used to suppress OSPF hello packets on a specified interface. It is also used in other routing protocols like RIP and EIGRP.
