Pronouns in Japanese are interesting as it’s quite uncommon to hear third-person gendered pronouns. They exist and are used but typically you refer to people by their names or if you don’t know, as like “あの人”. I haven’t seen the text, maybe they drop a 彼 or 彼女 in there.
