Putting an end to all this by stepping in as a Japanese person When I read this I understood it as “the cat kid”. As someone already pointed out in the replies, kitten is 子猫(koneko), and it would be weird to phrase it as 猫の子. (More below)

unfortunately it's a mistranslation. this is a fan translation so it's not accurate. she calls her "猫の子" which CAN mean "cat girl" but the real equivalent is kitten. baby cat. she's worse than senshi and laios because she infantilizes her😭

子means child yes, but there’s always different nuances. For example あほの子(aho no ko) means “stupid kid” and not “stupid’s child”. This is the nuance that applies in this case.
