The home of sausage is your country, and it is very convincing. I’m surprised to know that grilled sausage alone can be called “Hot Dog”. So, I argue that the Japanese hot dog is a thick, skewered-grilled sausage called “フランクフルト”, a standard snack at festival stalls.
