And finally, our favorite photo from 2023: It’s not common to see aurora this far south, and especially not overhead. But this spring, we had a few solar storms that lit up the sky over the entire park, including over Canary Spring in the Mammoth Hot Springs area.

Negative temperatures and chance of snow are in the weather forecast this week - be sure to come prepared! Bring extra layers of clothing, food/water, and drive cautiously during your visit. Some park roads can temporarily close if conditions are unsafe for travel.

Have you ever filled a water bottle in Yellowstone or asked a park ranger a question. If so, you have an engineer to thank. National Park Service engineers work hard building housing for that park ranger to live in and improving water, and waste-water systems. #EngineersWeek

If you want to drive a personal vehicle in the park this winter, you’ll need to come to the North Entrance in Gardiner, MT - it’s the only road open to regular vehicles in winter. From there, you can drive to Mammoth Hot Springs, Lamar Valley, and Silver Gate/Cooke City.

As if waiting for Yellowstone National Park’s birthday week, Steamboat Geyser erupted before dawn on Monday of this week (the 26th of February). It was 57 days since its last eruption, which happened on December 30th.
