Szene I
End of Church service
Walther greets Eva, falling in love at first sight, asking if she is engaged to anyone, as Magdalena (Eva's maid) interrupts
David - Han Sach's apprentice, is introduced
David tells Walther about the Meistersinger's art, to try and get him to participate in the upcoming singing contests
Szene II
Poger, a Meistersinger, announces his daughter's hand in marriage to whoever wins the upcoming singing contest
The Meistersingers thank Poger for his generous offer
Poger introduces Walther to the Meistersingers as a candidate for the contest
Walther chooses Love as the subject for his song
The Baker reads out the rules to Walther before he begins his song
Fanget an! (the signal to begin the singing)
Beckmesser, another Meistersinger, begins to scratch a chalkboard, as Walther sings free-form and breaks the Meistersingers' rules
Hans Sachs interrupts Beckmesser's interruptions and tries to convince the Meistersingers to let Walther to continue singing
Walther continues singing, but is interrupted by the Meistersingers, chaos builds, and eventually he is chased out of the Church

Vorspiel (Prelude)
Szene I
David eventually gets the attention of Sachs, who is sitting at his workshop, contemplating something
David leaves Sachs to prepare for the festival, and he thinks over the chaos of last night
Szene II
Practicing with Sachs, Walther develops a song more according to the rules of the Meistersingers
Szene III
Beckmesser after entering Sach's workshop, notices the Prize song in Sach's handwriting and confronts him about it when he re-appears soon after, where Sach gives it to Beckmesser as a gift, and will never claim the song for his own - but warns Beckmesser it is very difficult to sing. Bedckmeser ignores this and rushes off to prepare for the song contest
Szene IV
Walther arrives dressed for the festival, and sings the last section of the Prize song for Eva
Eva and Walther are grateful for Sachs for helping compose the Prize song, and ask for forgiveness for manipulating him in regards to the previous song contest
Tristan und Isolde... Sach's promises he will never become like the tale of King Marke, and marry a woman much younger than himself
Hans Sach's, Magadalena, Walther, Eva and David sing a quintet dedicated to there good fortune Selig, wie die Sonne meines Glückes lacht (Blessed how the Sun of my Happiness laughes)
Szene V: THE MEISTERSINGER'S FESTIVAL BEGINS
Three Guilds from Nurenberg, the Cobblers, Tailors and Bakers songs of the representation
The celebrations reach a climax

The Meistersingers approach the festival!
Everyone sings a famous song by Hans Sachs, Wach’ auf, es nahet gen den Tag (Wake up, it is approaching the day)
The prize contest begins and Beckmesser starts by attempting the Prize song
After some terrible singing, the crowds are confused as to how Sach's could have written such a bad song
Beckmesser yells that the song his not his, that Hans Sachs tricked him into playing it. Sachs then explains that the song is not his own, and that the song is beautiful when sung correctly - and calls forth Walther for the task
Walther begins the Prize song
The people are enthralled, and declare Walther the winner of the Meistersinger's contest
OPERA ENDE and Hans Sach's warning about foreign invasions including the disastrous effect it will have on German Culture and Art if Germany were to fall under a false and foreign rule - and that all should honor there German masters, favor there endeavors, therefore there will always be German Art
