Here are basic protective measures against COVID-19
Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 40 seconds
Avoid touching frequently-touched surfaces, such as door handles and staircase railings
Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
Cover your cough and sneeze with the inside of your elbow or tissue
If you use a tissue, discard it immediately after use and clean your hands

PART 1 - DONNING (PUTTING ON) THE PPE For doffing procedure, refer to the later part of this video
PPE should ALWAYS be worn before entering the room where the patient is. Put the PPE on in the following order
Step Two - Put on face mask Carefully make sure it is secure around the ears
Step Three - Put on eye protection This MUST be worn if risk assessment shows a chance of splashing into the eyes
YOU ARE NOW READY TO ENTER THE PATIENT AREA
Step One - Remove disposable non-sterile gloves Grasp the outside of the glove above the cuff and peel off
Step Three - Remove eye protection (if worn due to risk of splashing) Hold both arms of the eye protection and lift then pull away from the face. Discard after use.
Step Four - Remove surgical facemask This should be done outside the isolation room or cohort area

It shows the type of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required, and how to put it on and take it off safely.
Safe systems of working • PPE is just one part of safe systems of working • only clinical staff who are trained and competent in the use of this PPE, should be allowed to enter the patient room
The recommended PPE components • a long, rear-fastening, fluid resistant long sleeved surgical gown; • a fit-tested FFP3 respirator, there are a number of approved respirators, here are just two examples; • a disposable full face visor or goggles
Pre-donning instructions a. ensure healthcare worker hydrated b. tie hair back c. remove jewellery (no stoned rings, watch, bracelets etc!) d. check PPE in the correct size is available
If glasses are worn: a. remove glasses before donning the respirator b. clean them with an alcohol wipe c. replace before donning the visor
If you still cannot obtain a successful fit check, DO NOT enter the work area
Step Four a. put on a pair of non-sterile, nitrile gloves (these need to be available in a range of sizes)
Once you are happy that all steps have been completed properly, you are now ready to enter the patient area.
