In this demonstration, you will see an artist recreate a floral design from a desk drawer.
First, the artist creates a watercolor to work from.
The package containing the veneer is secured by nails.
Each detail is cut out by hand using a fretsaw.
Each piece is dropped into a stain bath, one for each color used in the design.
Then the pieces are arranged according to how they appear in the watercolor.
A cavity is cut in the veneer into which the flower will be inserted.
Here the artist checks to make sure the piece fits in the cavity.
The assembly is placed under a plexiglass sheet and clamped until the glue is dry.
Stubborn areas of paper and glue require scraping with a knife.
