growing and caring of Sago Palm / Cycas revoluta
An ornamental plant, and it is one of the species used in the production of sago.
They are called Sago palms, but they are not real palm trees, but cycads. They are nonflowering plants, while the palms are flowering plants.
Sago palm will grow well in full sun or partial shade, but will have larger leaves in slightly shaded areas.
Cycas revoluta should be grown in a mixture of loam, compost, coarse bark and grit, or well draining soil.
These plants are sensitive to over watering and poorly drained soil. Wait till the soil dries out before watering again.
They can be planted in pots but they grow larger when planted in the ground.
its good to add a slow release fertiliser in the compost to speed up growth of the plant.
Because they grow so slowly, Sago palms only need repotting about every two years when they are planted in containers.
Warning! All parts of the sago palm are toxic to humans and animals when ingested. The seeds (nuts) are the most toxic part.
