Standard Japanese cuisine vs. Kaiseki Japanese cuisine
You can opt out of ryokan meals (both dinner and breakfast).
Ryokan usually offer 3 room types: Traditional Japanese, Western or fusion.
Western rooms are similar to hotel rooms, with beds instead of futons.
Traditional Japanese style rooms use futons instead of beds
Japanese-Western fusion rooms are similar to Japanese rooms, but often provide futons on bedframes for comfort
Room sizes vary between each ryokan
Some ryokan provide public onsen which can be reserved for private use
Most, if not all ryokan will have communal onsen baths too
Once you've decided, you must book your room
