On this day in 1981, Prince Charles married Lady Diana Spencer at St Paul's cathedral.
The ceremony was widely-billed as the "fairytale wedding of the century".
Attended by 3,500 guests, the nuptials had a global TV audience of 750 million.
The couple got engaged four months beforehand after half a year of courting.
After the service, the newly-weds returned to Buckingham Palace for the reception.
Diana's enormous £9,000 dress famously struggled to fit in the royal carriages.
Another two million spectators lined the route from the cathedral to the palace.
Though the marriage bore two children, it sadly ended in divorce in 1996.
